The treatment needed to rehabilitate a child suffering from severe burn consequences requires great commitment & effort from all the professionals involved. This has to be faced with a multidisciplinary strategy, using specialized equipment and high-cost materials.
The biggest challenge is that most of our patients are under 5 years of age . The treatment of the scar tissue is done by growth cycles including prevention of overgrowth of the burned skin, preservation of healthy tissue quality surrounding the wound and finally the surgical procedure that replaces the scar tissue and allows the healthy growth of the skin .
Each treatment cycle takes approximately 3 years and has to be repeated regularly till final growth is reached and final aesthetic corrections can be done.
These cycles involve ambulatory surgical procedures (skin grafts and scars ) (eliminar palabra “treatment”) , wound care, kinesiotherapeutic sessions, occupational therapy, psychiatric care & musical therapy . All these are provided with the involvement of MDs specialized in physiatry, anaesthesiology, plastic surgical, dermatology and pediatrics; together with an experienced team of nurses, nutritionists, social service experts, compressive garment workshop and clinical lab members. |
