  COANIQUEM, together with ACHS and Carabineros de Chile initiate the 2009 – 2010
“Stop the Fire” Campaign
The press conference that announced the initiation of the 2009 – 2010 “Stop the Fire” Campaign was
presided by COANIQUEM´s President Dr. Jorge Rojas, ACHS´s General Manger Mr. Eduardo Undurraga
and Carabinero´s Major Christian Mardones Ubeda.
These authorities informed that even though it is against the law to use fireworks in Chilean homes,
constant police raids to the Meiggs commercial district have found big stocks of these products aimed
at holidays sales to private homes. This is a warning alert to all public efforts directed at preventing burn accidents in the Christmas holidays, due to fireworks and/or electrical burns due to faulty non certified Christmas lights.
To avoid these accidents the recommendation is to not use fireworks in your home celebrations. They
include powder which once lit up is not controllable and produces serious burns. All families are advised
to only attend authorized firework exhibitions. The illegal sales of these products should be reported to

It is also recommended to buy only certified Christmas lighting. If you are using last years, your are advised
to carefully check the condition of the cables and lights, and to put out these lights before going to bed
at night. These lights can provoke fires on your property and serious burns that require long rehabilitation processes. In some cases these accidents can also be the cause of cardiac arrests or general heart problems.
RESULTS OF THE 2008 – 2009 “STOP THE FIRE” CAMPAIGN
In the Holiday season of 2008 – 2009, only 10 children were reported burned in firework accidents in all
of Chile.
